Are political ads the key to get you seated in Malacanang?

Ever since Senator Benigno Aquino III (better known as Noynoy) decided to run for president, it has been clear to most of us that he - being the son of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino - is the one. But bear in mind that there are still other candidates who are making a name for themselves; one of which is Senator Manny Villar. On the first survey of the presidential candidates, Noynoy led everybody; and it wasn't even close! Manny Villar came in second and was even trailing by more or less 30%. When asked about this, Villar then calmly spoke "That's just the beginning, a lot of things can change in a few months". And for the past few months Villar didn't waste any time putting up political ads on television. Quite frankly, the guy was everywhere! Compared to the other presidential candidates (including Aquino), I guess Villar put up more ads than all the other candidates combined; and it's not even campaigning time yet! I guess it's just a strategy for him to really get the people's attention; and probably to outmatch the favorite, Aquino. Well, it takes time; and on the latest surveys, Villar actually raised his popularity by, I think 4%; and this survey doesn't even speak for the entire Filipinos. Who knows, maybe in other regions Villar is actually the favorite to win.
Which brings me to this question - These political ads, can they really make a difference in the upcoming elections? I know for a fact that there are other presidential candidates aside from Villar and Aquino (Teodoro, Estrada, Gordon, and Villanueva are also starting to make their moves); and I'm not counting those other guys out. It just popped up in my mind the desire of Villar to be elected president; with his ads and all. And I guess, I believe these ads may help a lot; provided that you carry out those plans of yours once elected. But can they? That remains to be seen.

  1. Ads only help a person for only a certain period of time because it isn't every time that their faces are sen on TV. It may convince a voter to cast a vote on him but the voter can always change his mind. The final decision is on the voter.

  2. The effect of the political ads, I think, is rather psychological. I don't know if this is true but if constant to exposure of a candidate's face and his 'benevolent works' might influence the voter's choice.

I say excellent reaction for bringing up this topic! haven't thought of this. XD

  4. Probably political ads add up popularity in a candidate, but the main factor people would consider when voting would be the background, skills, and experiences that candidates have.I guess the ads just make a constant reminder that this candidate is really dedicated to his/her candidacy, and maybe, just maybe, may be an instrument for show-off that this candidate has enough money to do this and that, which would give him reputation as well. Nice choice of topic dude, great job as well! =D
